Geological allotment area is 4,759 (four thousand seven hundred and fifty nine) square km.
Geological allotment depth is up to Paleozoic basement.
According to the administrative division, the field belongs to Taskaly rayon of West Kazakhstan oblast of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Kamenkovsk site is located within the transition zone of the northern edge of Pre-Caspian basin of the oblast what contains the main oil and gas reserves in Ural province, according to the geological conditions. In this regard, exploration and development of oil-and-gas-bearing structures in this zone is high-priority. Discovery of West-Teplovsk, Gremyachinsk, Ulyanovsk, Tsyganovsk and other fields confirms prospectiveness of the northern zone in terms of oil-and-gas content and requires accelerated research and exploration operations.
Basic Geographic and Economic Information
Kamenkovsk site is geographically located in the interior zone of the northern edge of Pre-Caspian basin, and is a valley covered with hills divided into separate highs by river channels and ditches. The relief height above sea level ranges from 90 to 155 meters.
The main water course is the upper reaches of Derkul which dries in summer and is broken down into separate streams. The main nourishment of the rivers and the canals is precipitation and ground water discharge in watercourses. Water in rivers and ponds is applicable for industrial needs. Groundwater at Kamenkovsk site can be used as potable.
The climate is continental with cold winters and hot summers. In winter the temperature is 15-200C below zero, in summer 25-400C above zero. The thickness of snow cover in the valleys does not exceed 0.5-0.7 m, but in trenches and gullies it is 1.5-2 m and higher. Snow cover sets late November – early December. Intensive snow melting takes place within several days and mainly ends in first ten days of April.
Average annual rainfall is maximum 300 mm. The rainfall distribution during the year is uneven: about 62-75 percent of average annual rainfall is from April thru October, the maximum rainfall, 35-37% of annual average rainfall, is from May thru July.
Wind speed ranges within 4-9 m/sec - 30 m/sec. The winds in the region are mostly southwards. The wind speed in winter is higher than in summer. In spring and summer the wind direction changes rapidly, at that the north winds prevail.
The vegetation is typical for a dry steppe zone and represented, mainly, by steppe herbage and bush species, no forest. The fauna is represented mainly by steppe animals: among them prevail the rodents. Among varmint one can meet wolves, wild boars, foxes, and corsacs. Lakes and rivers are mainly inhabited by species of water birds. Among the birds one can meet steppe eagles, kites and other birds.
Population is Kazakhs, Russians and other CIS nations. The main activity of population is agriculture: basically cattle-breeding, and to a lesser degree - farming.
The rayon centre Kamenka village is located immediately at Kamenkovsk site. In addition, Amangeldi, Chizha II, and Chizha I, Aktau settlements are located within the site. The oblast centre Uralsk city is located at 70 km northeast of the eastern edge of Kamenkovsk site.
The traffic system represents the country dirt roads, which are suitable for transporting in dry seasons only.
Infrastructure
Active gas pipeline Orenburg – Uzhgorod – Soyuz Export Line, Chizha compressor station goes through the contract area.
at 40 km Atyrau-Samara pipeline goes to the east.
at 25 km CPC pipeline goes eastwards.
at 35 km the power transmission line-220 goes eastward of the site, at 20 km the power transmission line-500 connecting the station with Balakovo nuclear power plant (Russia) goes north-eastwards.
Saratov-Uralsk grader road runs northwardly of the site. Chizha-Kamenka grader road runs directly through the site.
Uralsk-Saratov trunk railway runs northwardly of the site.
Geophysical Survey
Exploration of the north edge of Pre-Caspian basin by geophysical methods began late 40’s - early 50’s.
Density metric surveying of 1:200 000 and 1:50 000 scales is made fully, and the problem of mapping of salt domes has been settled.
The leading exploration method of edge zone of Pre-Caspian basin is seismic exploration.
Depositary cover of Pre-Caspian oil and gas province includes subsalt, salt and post-salt sedimentary megalithic complex. Subsalt complex is defined by immersion from north to south as monocline. The latter is complicated by scarps of different age along the edge (Upper Devonian-Tournaisian, Visean-Bashkir and Post-Vereian). The salt megalithic complex is defined by developed salt-dome tectonics (power of salt is extended to few thousand meters). Specific Upper Permian carbonate sediments of Kalinovsk suite of Kazan strata, to which Kamensk gas condensate field relates, are confined to post-salt megalithic complex. All mentioned fields in the site under exploration and in the neighboring areas are confined to three major oil and gas complexes:
Carboniferous carbonate (Visean-Bashkir edge scarp);
Lower Permian carbonate (Artinskian - Asselian edge scarp);
Upper Permian post-salt carbonate (Kalinovsk suite).
The work packages carried out in the site under exploration are the exploration phase and are sufficient for prediction estimate of oil and gas reserves only. Implementation of the modern detailed CDP method of 2D; 3D exploration surveys at the stage of structures-formations exploration will allow exploring the revealed deposits in detail (structure feature, monitoring, etc.) and specifying the reserves at the level of their commercial recovery.
Oil-and-Gas Content
According to geological zoning, Kamenkovsk site is located within North Caspian oil-and-gas bearing area, which tectonically corresponds to northern edge zone of Caspian basin.
The following deposits: Karachaganak, West Teplovsk, Kamensk, Darinsk etc. are discovered in North Pre-Caspian oil-and-gas-bearing area.
According to data of MEMR RK, prospective resources at Kamenkovsk site as of 01.01.1997 are estimated as follows: Gas - 400 billion m3, condensate - 450/150 million tons, oil - 100/50 million tons. The resources are mainly related to subsalt sediments.
At Kamenkovsk site, according to the seismic and geological analysis, four types of hydrocarbon deposits are forecasted:
The deposits in subsalt sediments complex:
type I - HC deposits in Upper Permian and Lower Permian (post-salt) sediments, trottoirs in Teplovsk-Tokarevsk zone in the northern part of the Contract Area within the northern edge scarp of Pre-Caspian basin (similar to Tokarevsk gas condensate field, depth of formation is 1200-3700 m);
Type II - Kuznetsovsk structures in subsalt sediments in Lower Permian, Carboniferous, and Upper Devonian (similar to Karachaganak oil field, depth of formation 5000-7000 m).
The deposits in the salt sediments complex:
Type III – HC deposits in the salt Permian sediments (similar to Kamensk gas condensate field, depth of formation 2600-3100 m).
The deposits in post-salt sediments complex:
Type IV - HC deposits in the basin southward of the Contract Area.
According to the predicted resources of Kamenkovsk site, which are based on a set of geological and geophysical surveys, drilling data, seismic stratigraphy analysis of pay section of the areas geologically adjacent to the commercial HC deposits, the area under exploration is recommended as a new high-prospective area of North Pre-Caspian oil-and-gas-bearing region of Pre-Caspian Basin.
The following factors indicate petroleum potential of the territory under exploration:
The site is located within the high-prospective zone of Pre-Caspian oil and gas province in the interior part of the Northern edge.
The site is geologically located in the same structural and tectonic zone with Karachaganak largest gas condensate field (recoverable reserves are above 2.5 billion tons of standard fuel) in the Northern part of edge.
Availability of the commercial fields of Teplov-Tokarev group (Chinarev, Gremyachinsk etc.) between the area under exploration and Karachaganak.
Availability of the large hydrocarbon fields (Astrakhan, Kashagan, Tengiz and Zhanazhol) in Pre-Caspian Basin.
Kamensk gas condensate field (gas flow rate is 1,280 thousand m3/day) is discovered directly on the Contract Area.
Availability of the identified oil-and-gas-promising structures in terrigenous and carbonate deposits within the area under exploration, according to the geophysical data.
Forecast Reserves
The forecast geological reserves of C3 hydrocarbons on explored Kamenkovsk area throughout the section (post-salt sediments, subsalt deposits and subsalt sediments) may amount to above one billion tons of standard fuel.
No productive hydrocarbons strata are drilled yet at Kamenkovsk licensed area, but Kamensk gas condensate field with approved reserves of 7.5 billion m3 of gas (A + B + C1) and 1.5 billion m3 of gas (C2) as of January 1, 1996 is discovered within this area.
The forecast geological reserves (C3) within identified and explored Kuznetsovsk structure only are about:
Gas condensate: 240 - 280 million tons
Free gas: 300 - 350 billion m3
The forecast crude oil calculations are about 65-80 million tons (considering the fact of availability of light oil in well No. 13 of Kamensk field).
